AI GeoGuessr Hacker | Chrome Extension

Motivation:

• Last fall break, my friends and I decided to play GeoGuessr: an online geography game where players guess locations around the world based on Google Street View images.
• My friends had spent years practicing, and knew every "meta" in the game. Unsurprisingly, I was only able to win a few games out of the countless matches we played. I realized I needed every advantage I could get...

Solution:

• Naturally, I developed a chrome extension to help level the playing field.

How it works:

• Once the user inputs their OpenAI api key and clicks the "capture" button, a request to OpenAI's Vision endpoint is made with the base64 encoded image and prompting asking for the exact estimated coordinates.
• Next, the coordinates are parsed from the returned JSON and passed into an interactive Google Maps iFrame, which highlights the estimated coordinates with a pin.
• This whole process takes around 5 seconds, leaving the user ample time to input their GeoGuessr answer even in the fastest gamemode.
• This ended up being a super fun way to learn how to develop, package, and publish a chrome extension, design a store page, and prank my friends! I hope to add many more updates in the future.
• As of now, (2 weeks after releasing) the Chrome Extension has over 120 downloads and counting.
